Matisse by Brassai

In the artistic circles of modernist Paris Henri Matisse was usually called "The Doctor" because of his neat look that distinguished him among the other painters and sculptors.
Personally I think he resembled Sigmund Freud. He looks so analytic!

thank good he wasn't Freud!
and his art is so opposite of what Freud did

why, Freud's conception of unconscious gave powerful philosophic impulse to the modernist art.
the other question is how the artists understood and interpreted Freud's ideas.

art would and did happen regardless of Freud
in total, literature, music and painting, art as a whole, were part of the same new tendency
and Freud was part of this wave, but by all means not the wave itself

я вижу немалую разницу между Фрейдом и Матиссом
или мы не одинаково понимаем что такое Матисс.

А возможно даже, что мы неодинаково понимаем не только что такое Матисс, но и что такое Фрейд. Но это нормально, интерпретационный плюрализм, стало быть:)

ну в общем, да
но
если говорить о трудах жизни – то их 2 труда политически совершенно разно-направлены
это кроме простейшего факта – то что сделано Матиссом опровергнуто быть не может
а то что Фрейдом – да

да, Зигмунда определенно по-разному
но это долгий-долгий разговор, и как мне кажется, у вас к нему чувств гораздо больше, чем у меня
так ,что, во избежание трений:)

Современное искусство считает, что оно опровергло и похоронило не только Матисса, но и весь модернизм. Но мы же не можем согласиться с этим, не так ли?
То же и с Фрейдом: кое-какие концепции однозначно могут быть отброшены, но от его второй топики пляшет почти вся позднейшая психология (не считая юнгианского направления, хотя они, как по мне, вообще ... эээ... ну, нет у меня к ним научных чувств).

it almost totally escaped me that these great photos were by Brassai -i always associate him with Henry Miller due to a book i have on Brassai and Miller. recently i searched for photos by him, wondering if there wasn't just such material as this to be found. thanks for posting these. great post.
